Camtec Electronics Ltd. was formed in 1979. Initially, the business was based on providing a computer networking solution for UK universities. Working with the universities' joint networking team, Camtec was at the forefront of developing the X25 communication protocol. Over the first decade, the customer base changed to commercial, industrial and public sectors. Customers included government departments, police forces, large industrial operations and financial institutions. In 1990, Camtec Electronics was acquired by the Swedish telecommunications company Ericsson, and became Ericsson Intracom. The customer base expanded under Ericsson to become global in nature. Countries where product has been supplied include Italy, Germany, Belgium, Sweden, Spain, Norway, Croatia, China, Thailand, Korea, USA, Mexico, Brazil, Saudi Arabia and more. During this time, the PFA range of products were designed and introduced into the market, with networks being installed from less than 10 PFA's to over 4500 units in our largest network. Additionally, a variant of the PFA660 was introduced, known as the AXD330. Also, manufacture and testing of the FS700 product was transferred to Intracom from elsewhere in Ericsson. As part of the major restructuring undertaken by Ericsson, Ericsson Intracom was transferred back to private ownership by management buyout in 2001. The newly formed company resurrected the original company name of Camtec Electronics Ltd. Camtec Electronics has design and manufacturing capability, the staff coming entirely from Ericsson Intracom, thus maintaining the skills and experience that had designed and manufactured the PFA range of products. We are also able to offer hardware and software support and a repair facility. To start with, all business continued to be routed through Ericsson, but from September 2001, Camtec Electronics has an agreement with Ericsson to manufacture and sell the PFA range, AXD330 and FS700 products under licence. More recently, we have developed NetCommander, an extremely versatile networked monitoring and control unit. Camtec Electronics is also able to offer a hardware, software, PCB design, prototyping and production facility. |
